TeachingMy teaching experience covers the gamut of one-on-one instruction, professional and staff training, information literacy, and formal academic courses. The subject matter ranges from information finding and analysis skills and tools to the use of geographic information system software for analysis. In 2000 I attended a semester long program that prepares female faculty members for leadership positions in academia. The program is called BRIDGES and it is sponsored by the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. At the request of the chair of the Department of Justice Studies at Methodist University I developed a course for justice studies majors on the use of geographic information system technology in law enforcement (JUS 333 GIS Applications in Law Enforcement). This course emphasizes the development of analytical skills. I created many of the laboratory exercises. Syllabus As a medical librarian and academic librarian I've given many presentations on how to use information resources and tools. These presentations often involved live demonstrations and hands on experience for attendees. At Methodist University I developed a formal information literacy program for undergraduates that was adopted by the faculty as a graduation requirement. This program contained graded pre-tests and post-tests for outcome assessment. I instituted a regular program of staff training for employees at Davis Memorial Library.
