My assignment is to provide GIS support to staff in an environmental division.

  • Improve work flow processes and redesign data layer schemas for cross-functionality and improved use in decision-making.
  • Train individuals and groups to use GIS as a tool in their subject area; provide technical support.
  • Evaluate status of GIS data in Environmental Division branches; improve usability and usage; improve standard compliance.
  • Install and maintain GIS/GPS software for PCs and mobile devices.
  • Liaison for division to GIS/CADD office; participate in decision making of GIS Working Group.

 

Business and Computer Applications Analyst (2006 to 2009)

Major responsibilities

  • Maintain 400 plus data layers in the Sandhills spatial data clearinghouse and provide access to the data through a website and interactive web mapping site.
  • Create new regional data sets and update datasets.
  • Administer ArcIMS site; design and maintain web sites.
  • Assist regional organizations (Regional Land Use Advisory Council , Sandhills Conservation Partnership, Sustainable Sandhills and BRAC-RTF) with data access and analysis
  • Project leader for a grant from the Interagency Leadership team, funded through NC DOT. Part of this grant is for creation of a cultural site data layer
  • Organize meetings for the Sandhills GIS Association (SGISA) and provide logistical support

Recent accomplishments

  • Completed the planning phase for a cultural sites GIS-based dataset. This involved creating a data dictionary and geodatabase structure. Now testing data gathering and data entry.
  • As the Sustainable Sandhills Land Team Leader I assisted with the organization of a successful workshop for regional planners on September 14, 2007. The workshop, "Suitability Maps for the Sandhills Region: planning tools for sustainable communities", was held at the National Golf Club, Southern Pines.
  • Completed a generalized regional zoning map for an eleven county region.
  • Completed a revision of a data layer of protected and managed open space in an eleven county region

I wore many hats during my seventeen years at Methodist: cataloger, reference librarian, collection development specialist, systems administrator and analyst, computer repair/security technician, manager and administrator. My position required interaction with the business and maintanence departments of the college, as well as the academic side.

  • Developed database applications to track journal holdings, book purchases, interlibrary loan requests, budget and statistics. Maintained databases.
  • Organized and ran project for annual database of medical journal holdings held statewide.
  • Maintained journal collection. Cataloged materials.
  • Provided mediated medical database searching & located information for health professionals.
