Geographic information system software and data is utilized by practically every work environment to some degree. There is the old adage of nearly 90% of local government data containing a spatial component. To provide quality GIS support for decision-making and asset management an understanding of the subject material is needed.

During my career I have studied crime analysis, worked with local government staff in planning and transportation, and provided analysis and data support for NGOs on land use. In my present position I assist a variety of natural resource and environmental experts. A typical day may include working on data or schemas for rare plants, air quality and well asset management; and providing individual instruction and advice.

Prior to this I worked in the Fayetteville regional office of the Division of Community Assistance, North Carolina Department of Commerce. I managed the Sandhills spatial database, an ArcIMS site, devised custom data sets to assist with analysis and decision-making by NGOs, and revitalized the Sandhills GIS Association. Previously I managed and automated the library at Methodist University and taught GIS to undergraduates.
